What I did on my Summer Vacation
some snapshots from the Pathfinder project Operational Readiness Tests
Before the Pathfinder landing, we all put our bets on where Pathfinder would land. Here's me pointing to my dot on the landing-site map. Pretty close, but the actual landing was slightly north and west. (Photo by Joe Kolecki 1997)

Snapshots at Mars Pathfinder Operational Readiness Test 6
An operational readiness test ("ORT") is a practice run to get the operating crew ready for operating the Pathfinder spacecraft on the surface of Mars. Here I have scanned a few of the snapshots from the 6th ORT, in May.

I couldn't resist the chance to pose with the Pathfinder model inside simulated Mars.

Me posing with a model of the Pathfinder spacecraft in cruise configuration. The lander is hidden inside the conical heat shield; the blue ring at the top is the solar array used during the Earth to Mars interplanetary cruise.

The JPEG of me in the Mars chamber and the one of me with the Pathfinder model have little yellow numbers in one corner. These numbers have no significance, except to tell that the camera had an internal internal clock which reset due to low batteries.
